This Ultimate Patty Melt is a delicious sandwich featuring caramelized onions, juicy beef patties, and melted American cheese, all sandwiched between toasted Texas toast with a tangy creamy pepper sauce.

- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 8 slices of American cheese
- 8 slices of Texas toast
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 tbsp creamy pepper sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: In a large skillet set over low heat, add the thinly sliced onions along with a pinch of salt. Allow them to cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and incredibly soft—approximately 20 minutes.
- Form and cook patties: Shape the ground beef into four oval patties, seasoning both sides with salt and pepper. In the same skillet, cook the patties for about 4 minutes on each side.
- Prepare creamy pepper sauce: In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix well.
- Assemble and toast: Spread a layer of butter on one side of each slice of Texas toast. On the non-buttered side, spread the creamy pepper sauce. Layer cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, and more cheese, then top with another slice of buttered bread, buttered side out. Toast until golden and cheese melts.
- Serve: Cut the patty melts in half and serve hot alongside crispy fries or a fresh salad.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños, and try different cheeses like pepper jack.
