Description

This Ultimate Patty Melt is a delicious sandwich featuring caramelized onions, juicy beef patties, and melted American cheese, all sandwiched between toasted Texas toast with a tangy creamy pepper sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices of American cheese
  • 8 slices of Texas toast
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 tbsp creamy pepper sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions: In a large skillet set over low heat, add the thinly sliced onions along with a pinch of salt. Allow them to cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and incredibly soft—approximately 20 minutes.
  2. Form and cook patties: Shape the ground beef into four oval patties, seasoning both sides with salt and pepper. In the same skillet, cook the patties for about 4 minutes on each side.
  3. Prepare creamy pepper sauce: In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix well.
  4. Assemble and toast: Spread a layer of butter on one side of each slice of Texas toast. On the non-buttered side, spread the creamy pepper sauce. Layer cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, and more cheese, then top with another slice of buttered bread, buttered side out. Toast until golden and cheese melts.
  5. Serve: Cut the patty melts in half and serve hot alongside crispy fries or a fresh salad.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños, and try different cheeses like pepper jack.
