A mouthwatering blend of savory flavors featuring beef patties, caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, and a special secret sauce, all grilled to perfection on rye bread.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté until golden and caramelized, about 12-15 minutes.
  2. Remove the caramelized onions from heat and set aside.
  3. Form the ground beef into two large patties, seasoning both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook the patties in a separate skillet or grill over medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  5. Combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl to create the secret sauce.
  6. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread, placing them butter-side down in the skillet.
  7. Spread a layer of secret sauce on the unbuttered sides of the bread. Add a slice of Swiss cheese, followed by the beef patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of cheese.
  8. Add the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing up.
  9. Grill the sandwich for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
  10. Remove from heat, slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or switching up the cheese. Whole grain rye bread can provide a heartier texture.
