- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

- 1/2 cup milk

Instructions
- Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in a large pot over medium heat until soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and vegetable broth to the pot. Stir in the sugar, salt, and pepper, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for about 20 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt for the dumplings. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Pour in the melted butter and milk, mixing until just combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling mixture into the simmering soup. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes.
- Serve the soup in bowls and garnish with fresh basil, if desired.
