Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, lemon zest, and strawberry puree until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, and mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Combine the diced strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a small bowl for the filling.
- Beat the softened butter for the frosting until creamy, then gradually add the powdered sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, and salt.
- Adjust the frosting consistency with heavy cream as needed.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate, top with strawberry filling, then frosting.
- Top with the second cake layer and frost the top and sides with buttercream.
- Garnish with fresh strawberries or lemon zest before serving.

Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature for best mixing. Fresh strawberries enhance flavor.
