Description

A deliciously comforting twist on the classic Sloppy Joe, served on crispy garlic bread and topped with melted cheddar cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut the French bread in half lengthwise and brush the cut sides with olive oil.
  3. Sprinkle the minced garlic evenly over the oiled bread.
  4. Bake the garlic bread for about 10 minutes or until crispy and golden.
  5. Cook the ground beef, onion, and green bell pepper in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
  6. Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  7. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture over the toasted garlic bread.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Return to the oven for another 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Cut into slices and serve warm.

Notes

For added flavor, sauté the minced garlic in olive oil before spreading it on the bread. Remember, you can switch ground beef with turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
