- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk (for custard)
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for custard)
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup fresh raspberries, mashed
- 2 tbsp sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a bowl. Stir well.
- Warm the milk and add it with butter and egg to the bowl.
- Knead the dough until smooth, then let it rise for about 1 hour.
- Prepare the custard by heating milk in a saucepan.
- Whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a separate bowl.
- Slowly pour warm milk into the yolk mixture while whisking.
- Return this mix to the saucepan and cook until it thickens, then add vanilla.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into balls.
- Fill each dough ball with custard and let them rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 18-20 minutes.
Notes
Use fresh raspberries for best flavor, and allow the buns to cool slightly before serving.
