Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  3. Mix the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder in a large bowl.
  4. Combine the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, white vinegar, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  5. Blend the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Frost the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter in a bowl until smooth, then gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  9. Assemble the cake by frosting the first layer, adding the second layer, then generously covering the top and sides with frosting.
  10. Decorate with edible glitter, fresh berries, or delicate flowers if desired.
