Description

A healthy twist on the classic burger, featuring seasoned beef patties held by tender, flavorful cabbage slices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head green cabbage, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (or ketchup)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or Monterey Jack), divided
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red chili pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the cabbage slices on a baking sheet, brushing each slice with oil, and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Roast the cabbage in the oven for about 10 minutes, until the edges become slightly tender.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef with garlic, green onions, parsley, red chili pepper flakes, half the cheese, salt, and pepper. Shape this mixture into four patties.
  4. Retrieve the cabbage from the oven. Top each slice with tomato sauce, a sprinkle of cheese, followed by a beef patty, and then more cheese.
  5. Bake everything in the oven for an additional 10-12 minutes until the cheese melts and the patties are cooked through.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, replace the ground beef with a plant-based alternative or a mixture of black beans and quinoa. Add herbs like oregano or basil for extra flavor.
