Description
Delicious and zesty cookies with a delightful crunch from poppy seeds, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
- 2 teaspoons orange zest
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg + 2 egg yolks, room temperature
- 1 1/2 teaspoons orange extract
- 1 drop of orange food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda, and poppy seeds. Whisk together and set aside.
- In a separate bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the orange zest, egg, egg yolks, orange extract, and food coloring (if using) to the butter mixture and mix until well blended.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring just until a dough forms.
- Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra chewy cookies, chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. These cookies can also be made gluten-free by substituting the flour.
