Description

A delightful tribute to the iconic summer flavor of creamsicles, this Orange Creamsicle Cake features refreshing orange and creamy frosting, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon fresh orange zest
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (for frosting)
  • Orange food coloring (optional)
  • White fondant or royal icing for decorations
  • Yellow candy or sprinkles for the centers

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract and orange zest.
  5. Alternate adding the dry mixture with orange juice and buttermilk until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter between the two prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Beat softened butter in a mixing bowl, then gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and orange juice to make frosting.
  9. Assemble by spreading frosting on one cake layer, placing the second layer on top, and frosting the entire cake.
  10. Decorate with white fondant or royal icing daisies and yellow candies in the centers.

Notes

Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting to avoid melting the frosting. Measure ingredients precisely for the best results.
