- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar (for fudge sauce)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (for fudge sauce)
- 1–1/4 cups boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
- Prepare the water by boiling it in a kettle.
- Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl: 1/2 cup granulated sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture; whisk until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
- Create the fudge sauce by mixing the remaining 1/2 cup white sugar, brown sugar, and 3 tablespoons cocoa powder; sprinkle over the batter.
- Pour the boiling water slowly over the batter without stirring.
- Bake for about 35 minutes or until the center is almost set.
- Cool for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. To elevate, consider adding chocolate chips or a pinch of espresso powder.
