Description

A luscious and decadent dessert featuring a rich chocolate cake topped with an ooey-gooey fudge sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar (for fudge sauce)
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (for fudge sauce)
  • 11/4 cups boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. Prepare the water by boiling it in a kettle.
  3. Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl: 1/2 cup granulated sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture; whisk until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Create the fudge sauce by mixing the remaining 1/2 cup white sugar, brown sugar, and 3 tablespoons cocoa powder; sprinkle over the batter.
  7. Pour the boiling water slowly over the batter without stirring.
  8. Bake for about 35 minutes or until the center is almost set.
  9. Cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. To elevate, consider adding chocolate chips or a pinch of espresso powder.
