Description
A nostalgic comfort food featuring elbow macaroni, savory tomato sauce, and seasoned ground beef, perfect for busy weeknights and family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups elbow macaroni noodles
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning blend
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 cups tomato sauce
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, and break it into smaller pieces. Cook until browned, about 7-8 minutes, then add the diced onions and continue cooking until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in the tomato sauce, scraping the bottom of the pan. Bring to a simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, boil a pot of salted water and cook the elbow macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.
- Add the drained macaroni to the sauce, folding gently to coat. If desired, add some of the reserved pasta water for creaminess.
- Let rest for 90 seconds before serving. Enjoy!
- For optional enhancements, consider mixing in grated carrots, bell peppers, or top with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
