Description

Savory meatballs in a luxurious creamy sauce that combines traditional flavors with comfort, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 tablespoons butter (for the sauce)
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef, panko bread crumbs, chopped parsley, allspice, nutmeg, onion, garlic powder, pepper, salt, and egg in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Roll the mixture into either 12 large meatballs or 20 smaller ones, based on your preference.
  3. Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat, then add the meatballs.
  4. Cook the meatballs, turning frequently, until brown on each side and fully cooked. Transfer to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
  5. Add 4 tablespoons of butter and flour to the same skillet, whisk until a brown roux forms.
  6. Whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream until smooth.
  7. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard, and bring to a simmer until the sauce thickens.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Return the meatballs to the skillet to simmer in the sauce for 1-2 minutes.
  10. Serve the meatballs over egg noodles or fluffy rice.

Notes

For a fresher flavor, use day-old bread for crumbs; substitute homemade stock for half of the beef broth for a richer sauce.
