- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 egg white (for royal icing)
- 1 1⁄2 cups powdered sugar (for royal icing)
- 1 tsp lemon juice (for royal icing)
- Fondant flowers (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream the unsalted butter and powdered sugar together in a large mixing bowl until smooth and fluffy.
- Beat in the large egg and vanilla extract.
- Sift the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and pinch of salt in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface until it’s about 1⁄4-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Place the shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Let your heart-shaped treasures cool completely on a wire rack.
- Beat the egg white with powdered sugar and lemon juice until stiff peaks form for the royal icing.
- Pipe the royal icing onto each cooled cookie.
- Once the icing is dry, decorate with fondant flowers.
Notes
Avoid overmixing the dough and allow royal icing to dry completely for best results. Can substitute butter with coconut oil for a healthier option.
