Juicy meatballs enveloped in a silky, savory mushroom gravy that warms the heart and home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon steak sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (cremini recommended)
- 3 tablespoons butter, divided
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- Chopped fresh parsley for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the lean ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, egg, steak sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into 16 to 20 meatballs and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the meatballs for 16 to 20 minutes, until cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until soft, about 3 to 5 minutes, then transfer to a plate.
- Melt the remaining butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth, then slowly whisk in the beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, cooking until thickened, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Return the mushrooms to the skillet, then add the baked meatballs to the gravy, cooking briefly to ensure they are heated through.
- Serve the meatballs garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
Consider adding finely chopped herbs like parsley or basil into the meat mixture for extra flavor.
