Description

Juicy meatballs enveloped in a silky, savory mushroom gravy that warms the heart and home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon steak sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (cremini recommended)
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Chopped fresh parsley for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the lean ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, egg, steak sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 16 to 20 meatballs and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake the meatballs for 16 to 20 minutes, until cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  5. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until soft, about 3 to 5 minutes, then transfer to a plate.
  6. Melt the remaining butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth, then slowly whisk in the beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce.
  7. Bring the mixture to a simmer, cooking until thickened, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  8. Return the mushrooms to the skillet, then add the baked meatballs to the gravy, cooking briefly to ensure they are heated through.
  9. Serve the meatballs garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Consider adding finely chopped herbs like parsley or basil into the meat mixture for extra flavor.
