- 4 slices of rustic bread (sourdough or French)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cups cremini or white mushrooms, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Combine the unsalted butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced mushrooms and let them sizzle for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and soft.
- Introduce the minced garlic and fresh thyme into the pan and stir for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Stir in the heavy cream and let it simmer for about 2 minutes until it thickens.
- Arrange the rustic bread slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for around 5-7 minutes.
- Spoon the mushroom and garlic mixture generously onto each piece of toasted bread.
- Sprinkle grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese over the toasts.
- Return the toasts to the oven for another 5-7 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
For the best results, taste and adjust your seasoning as you cook. Use whole grain bread for a healthier option.
