- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 1½ teaspoons salt
- 1½ cups warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil, plus more for greasing
- 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs or chopped rosemary (optional)
- Flaky sea salt, for topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, and salt. Whisk them together until evenly mixed.
- Add warm water, sugar, and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a lumpy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Press the risen dough into a greased pan, creating dimples with your fingers.
- Sprinkle with minced garlic, grated Parmesan, optional herbs, and flaky sea salt. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few moments, then cut into squares and serve warm.
Notes
Make sure your water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly. You can add toppings like sun-dried tomatoes or olives for variety.
