Description

A warm, soft bread with fragrant garlic and rich Parmesan cheese, perfect for sharing as an appetizer or serving alongside any meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1½ cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil, plus more for greasing
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs or chopped rosemary (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt, for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, and salt. Whisk them together until evenly mixed.
  2. Add warm water, sugar, and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a lumpy dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Press the risen dough into a greased pan, creating dimples with your fingers.
  6. Sprinkle with minced garlic, grated Parmesan, optional herbs, and flaky sea salt. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool for a few moments, then cut into squares and serve warm.

Notes

Make sure your water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly. You can add toppings like sun-dried tomatoes or olives for variety.
