Description

A mouthwatering burger that combines the rich flavors of French onion soup with a juicy beef patty, topped with caramelized onions and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 4 tbsp French onion soup mix
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 4 onion buns
  • 4 slices provolone or Gruyère cheese
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup water (plus more as needed)
  • 1/2 tsp brandy or sherry (optional)
  • Pinch of dried thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with the French onion soup mix, being careful not to overmix. Shape into 4 patties.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, add sliced onions and 1/4 cup of water. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes until soft and golden brown, adding brandy or sherry and thyme if desired.
  3. Heat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, adding cheese during the last minute to melt.
  4. Toast onion buns if desired, assemble burgers with patties, caramelized onions, and top buns. Serve hot.

Notes

Feel free to swap ground beef for turkey or chicken as healthier alternatives. Customize toppings to your liking.
