Description

A rich and hearty dish featuring tender beef, caramelized onions, and egg noodles, perfect for cozy family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef stew meat, cut into chunks
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 cup egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère or Swiss) for topping
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions, cooking until they are golden and caramelized for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. When fragrant, add in the minced garlic and let it cook for an additional minute.
  4. In a separate pot, brown the beef stew meat over medium-high heat, seasoning generously with salt and pepper.
  5. Once browned, combine the caramelized onions with the beef in the pot, stirring to unite the flavors.
  6. Pour in the beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme, then bring your pot to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and allow to simmer for about 1 hour.
  8. In the meantime, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until perfectly tender, then drain.
  9. Stir the cooked noodles into the beef mixture, ensuring they’re well-coated.
  10. Finally, sprinkle the shredded cheese on top and allow it to melt before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Ensure to allow the onions to caramelize fully and adjust seasoning during cooking for best results.
