  • 1 egg white (or 2 tablespoons meringue powder) for icing
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Food coloring (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract, stirring until fully combined.
  4. Introduce the flour and salt gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface.
  6. Cut out floral shapes using cookie cutters.
  7. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden around the edges.
  8. Cool the cookies completely on a wire rack.
  9. For royal icing, whisk the egg white or meringue powder with lemon juice until soft peaks form.
  10. Gradually add powdered sugar and whisk until stiff peaks form.
  11. Divide icing for colors and use food coloring to decorate cookies.
  12. Allow the icing to set before serving.
