Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Add in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract, stirring until fully combined.
- Introduce the flour and salt gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface.
- Cut out floral shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden around the edges.
- Cool the cookies completely on a wire rack.
- For royal icing, whisk the egg white or meringue powder with lemon juice until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and whisk until stiff peaks form.
- Divide icing for colors and use food coloring to decorate cookies.
- Allow the icing to set before serving.
