Description

A quick and easy stir fry combining tender beef and vibrant vegetables in a savory-sweet sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar (for sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger (for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef: Begin by thinly slicing the flank steak against the grain into 1/2-inch thick, 2-inch long strips. Place the strips into a freezer bag or medium bowl, then stir in 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Let this marinate at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of ground ginger. Set this savory sauce aside.
  3. Cook the beef: Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large, deep skillet or wok over high heat. Add half of the marinated beef and fry for about 3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside. Cook the remaining beef the same way.
  4. Stir fry the vegetables: In the same skillet, add the broccoli, carrots, snow peas, and red bell pepper. Stir fry for about 2 minutes until vibrant and slightly tender.
  5. Combine beef and sauce: Return the cooked beef to the skillet and pour in your prepared sauce. Stir everything together, allowing it to heat thoroughly for about 1 to 3 minutes.
  6. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle the sliced green onion and toasted sesame seeds on top. Serve over rice, noodles, or potatoes.

Notes

For extra spice, consider adding red pepper flakes to the sauce; adjust sweetness to taste.
