- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp hot sauce
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.33 cup cornstarch
- 0.5 cup fine cornmeal

- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper
- 0.5 tsp baking powder
- 1.25 tsp kosher salt (divided)
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp: Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- Marinate: In a medium bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add shrimp, cover, and let marinate in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
- Create the coating: In a shallow dish, mix flour, cornstarch, cornmeal, panko breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, and baking powder until well combined.
- Heat the oil: In a large skillet, pour vegetable oil and heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Coat the shrimp: Dredge marinated shrimp in the coating mixture, ensuring they are fully covered.
- Fry the shrimp: Carefully add shrimp in small batches to the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain and serve: Remove fried shrimp and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately while hot.
