- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.7 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can (10.7 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups shredded cheese
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare your baking dish by spraying a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Cook the beef, onions, and garlic together in a large skillet over medium heat until the beef is thoroughly browned.
- Drain any excess fat and season with salt and pepper.
- Layer the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish.
- Top the potatoes with half of your cooked beef mixture.
- Whisk together the condensed soups along with the evaporated milk and regular milk in a separate bowl.
- Pour half of the soup mixture over the beef layer.
- Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, beef, soup mixture, and cheese.
- Cover with foil, tenting it, to keep the moisture in while it bakes.
- Bake for 1 hour, then remove the foil and continue to bake for an additional 30 minutes.
- Let it stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Consider adding diced bell peppers or using a mix of cheeses for more flavor. You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef.
