Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced thin
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat, adding the ground beef and chopped onions.
  3. Sizzle them together until the beef is browned and fully cooked, draining any excess fat.
  4. Mix the cream of mushroom soup with a cup of milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Top with half of the beef mixture and half of the cheddar cheese.
  7. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, beef, and cheese.
  8. Pour the creamy soup mixture over the top.
  9. Cover loosely with foil and bake for an hour.
  10. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbling and golden.

Notes

For a lighter version, use lean ground turkey or chicken and consider adding vegetables like spinach or broccoli.
