- 250g butter (room temperature)
- 150g powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 350g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- White and colored icing (for decoration)
- Food coloring (yellow, green, pink, blue)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and mix until thoroughly combined.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together.
- Divide the dough into two portions. Chill if too soft.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place the cookies onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Cool on a wire rack before decorating.
- Prepare the icing by adding food coloring to create different colors.
- Pipe and decorate cookies with colored icing.
- Let the icing dry completely before serving.
Notes
Consider adding lemon or orange zest for refreshing flavor. Store-bought icing can also save time.
