- 6 medium russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease your 9×13 inch baking dish lightly.
- Melt butter in a saucepan and sauté minced garlic until fragrant.
- Pour in the heavy cream, milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg; bring to a gentle simmer.
- Stir in cheddar and Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish and pour half of the cheese sauce on top.
- Repeat layers with remaining potatoes and sauce.
- Add the final sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a creamier texture, substitute some milk with more heavy cream. Experiment with herbs or spices for added flavor.
