Description

A creamy and cheesy potato bake layered with tender russet potatoes and a rich cheese sauce, perfect for family gatherings or a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 6 medium russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease your 9×13 inch baking dish lightly.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan and sauté minced garlic until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream, milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg; bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Stir in cheddar and Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish and pour half of the cheese sauce on top.
  7. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes and sauce.
  8. Add the final sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  11. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a creamier texture, substitute some milk with more heavy cream. Experiment with herbs or spices for added flavor.
