Description

Indulgent donuts that combine the classic French dessert crème brûlée with a soft, pillowy texture and a caramelized sugar topping.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: milk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, and optional almond extract in a separate bowl.
  4. Combine the wet mixture into the dry ingredients gently.
  5. Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, filling each cavity about three-quarters full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool donuts for a few minutes before removing from the pan.
  8. Heat heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla in a saucepan until sugar dissolves.
  9. Whisk in the butter until the glaze is smooth, then dip each donut in the glaze.
  10. Sprinkle brown sugar on top of the donuts.
  11. Caramelize the sugar with a kitchen torch until golden and crispy.
  12. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure the donuts are slightly warm before dipping them in the glaze for better adhesion.
