Instructions

- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground allspice, and ground cloves.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract until fully blended.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into desired shapes.
- Carefully place the cut-out cookies on the baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly crisp.
- Cool the cookies on a wire rack before decorating.
