Description

A rich and comforting beef bolognese sauce combined with creamy garlic butter spaghetti, perfect for indulgent dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20 recommended for flavour)
  • 1 large Yellow Onion, finely chopped
  • 23 Carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 Celery Stalks, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz) can Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp Dried Basil
  • 1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
  • Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • Splash of Whole Milk or Heavy Cream (optional)
  • 1 lb Spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 45 cloves Garlic, thinly sliced or minced
  • 1/4 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese, plus more for serving
  • Fresh Parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, and celery; cook until softened and golden, about 8-10 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, cook until browned, and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, and bay leaf. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Reduce heat to low, partially cover, and let it simmer.
  5. For the creamy spaghetti, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
  6. In a skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add garlic and gently cook until softened.
  7. Whisk in heavy cream and warm through. Add cooked spaghetti to skillet, along with Parmesan cheese. Toss together, adding reserved pasta water to emulsify the sauce.
  8. Serve spaghetti topped with beef bolognese sauce, garnished with extra Parmesan and parsley.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider using ground turkey or chicken. Whole wheat pasta can also be used for added fiber.
